Duties of the Clerk
The clerk’s duties and responsibilities center around statutorily assigned functions, most of which are administrative. Although many of the clerk’s duties are carefully detailed by state law and do not permit personal discretion, the clerk is a member of the township board with a vote equal to the other members.
The Township Clerk carries out three major responsibilities involving township record keeping, financial operations, and elections.
Statutory Duties include:

Keep the township book of oaths
Responsible for special meeting notices
Keeps voter registration file and conducts elections
Keeps township ordinance books
Prepares financial statements
Delivers tax certificates to supervisor and county clerk by September 30
Must appoint a deputy
Must post a surety bond
